SC4U is a self-management programme designed to improve the health and wellbeing of the general population. It is not condition specific and therefore particularly appropriate for those who are most disadvantaged, to encourage healthier lifestyle choices.
Whilst SC4U is not designed to replace other evaluated EPP self-management courses, it can be a valuable stepping stone for the general public in self care, prior to them attending one of our other courses.
SC4U recognises that many GP consultations are for minor ailments and gives people the confidence to deal with issues such as coughs and colds without seeking a doctor’s appointment.
It also recognises that those at risk of developing lifestyle related conditions are able to make healthier choices if they are provided with the right information and support.
Participants reported improved self esteem, health literacy and numerous examples of positive changes in health behaviour. Changes in health behaviour were still in place one year later, mainly in the areas of diet, exercise and stress management
The course is run over six consecutive weekly sessions each lasting 90 minutes.
