The Staying Positive young people’s programme has won the prestigious Guardian Public Services Award in the category of service delivery for long-term conditions. Awards were announced on the 25th November at a high profile event in Billingsgate, London by journalist and presenter Kirsty Wark and Ed Milliband MP who both described the project as “truly inspirational”. Staying Positive was shortlisted from a massive 850 entries, a fantastic achievement for the project.
The innovative programme was developed by the Expert Patients Programme CIC for young people aged 12-18 who are living with a long-term health condition. The Staying Positive workshops are a series of 3 one-day workshops facilitated by trained young people who are also living with a long-term condition. Workshops give young people the skills to improve the management of their condition from both a health and a social perspective. The programme is being rolled out nationally after a successful pilot evaluated by Oxford University.
