WiPP Self Care Resources on the Move

EPP CIC has taken ownership of Self Care Connect - a dynamic resource and networking site for people and organisations interested in self care, providing the latest resources and information on self care and self-management.

The Working in Partnership Programme (WiPP) was established as part of the GMS contract arrangements in 2004 to provide support for primary care. A need was identified for a single access point for professionals and others interested in self care and Self Care Connect was born. There are now 1,200 registered users on the site – and it is a community that is growing every week.

The site provides fast access to information and resources on self care including key developments, policy drivers, up-to-date news and also provides a vibrant community area where views and experiences can be exchanged. It means health professionals, health commissioners, graduates from all courses and the public are encouraged to share best practice and have a one stop shop for self care and self-management resources.

To support this community it is crucial that the WiPP Self Care For You and the Self Care for Primary Care training resources continue to thrive and grow. These are among the most important self care initiatives of the past four years, are available on Self Care Connect and have also been transferred to EPP CIC.

Self Care for You is a self care skills training course for the general public made up of six activities to help people engage in self care. These activities introduce participants to a variety of ways to self care and outlines theories relevant to self care. The short activities and discussions help them to apply new learning to their own personal experiences and make important changes to their health behaviours.

Self Care for Primary Care is a set of workshop resources designed to encourage health professionals to learn to promote self care and introduce self care interventions for common health conditions in their patients. The programme is aimed at supporting PCT and social care organisations, and also general practice and pharmacy teams, to discuss the importance of self care and implement strategies to encourage better self care support services for patients.
