Would you like to help other people with long term health conditions?
Would you like to do some volunteering for your community?
Do you want get back into work?
Do you want some qualifications?
Why not train as a tutor?
If you have completed an Expert Patients Programme Community Interest Company (EPP CIC) self-management course and would like to train to become an accredited tutor then the first step is to complete an application form.
If your application is successful you will be asked to attend an interview (you will also need enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) clearance).
Training
Successful applicants will then:
- complete four days of tutor training
- be supported to deliver self-management courses in the community
- have two assessments which if successful will lead to accreditation.
Open College Network accreditation
EPP CIC has received Level 3 accreditation from the Open College Network (Credit for Learning) for course delivery - the equivalent of A or AS level standard. It means that once tutors receive training, mentoring and feedback from their first two successful courses they are entitled if they wish to receive Level 3 learning credits – potentially a major advantage for people with little formal education.
What course participants say:
Don - Blackpool
"Attending an Expert Patient Programme course was the best single thing that could have happened to help me control my condition."
Don attended an Expert Patients Programme (EPP) course after his rheumatoid arthritis nurse suggested it during one of their sessions. She had initially suggested a telephone based self care course but the idea of a group sharing their experiences and supporting each other appealed more to Don so she suggested EPP.

Lizzie - South Yorkshire
"Now I achieve what I set out to do and I have learnt that tomorrow is another day!"
I have lived with multiple long-term health conditions including a debilitating connective tissue disorder, arthritis, osteopenia and heart disease for over 20 years. I have had problems with my neck, arms and hands due to ‘cervical ribs’ for most of my life. During that time I have undergone many surgeries and had to make many changes to my life as a result.
